Here is a complete worked example showing how the grades on a marksheet become an SGPA, and how that SGPA becomes a percentage.
Semester marksheet: 5 subjects, 4 credits each. Grades: A (9), B+ (8), A (9), B (7), A (9).
Step 1 — SGPA: multiply each grade point by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits.
SGPA = (9 + 8 + 9 + 7 + 9) × 4 ÷ 20 = 168 ÷ 20 = 8.4
Step 2 — Percentage: using the common × 9.5 formula, percentage ≈ 8.4 × 9.5 = 79.8%. Note: your university may specify its own multiplier, so always check your official conversion rule.
